Dear all,

I really like the GUI and possibilities in Sizulizer, but find fuzzy matching a crucial feature because our program has quite long strings.

I read in another post from 2006 that this feature would be under development. Is there any news on this?

Best regards, Christine

Fuzzy matching with translation memory editor is in our roadmap and will come in 2008. I can not give any specific time at the moment,

Jaakko

Is fuzzy matching still on your roadmap?
Please give it a top priority because it is really crucial.
Many localization tools have it in place for ages.

Hi,

We are discussing this with R&D since a long time. At the time we placed fuzzy on our road map we (especially sales :-) ) thought it is a good buzz word to have on our feature list. But in the meantime we all became smarter.

We want to share two points against fuzzy:

a) Fuzzy matching is limited to western languages like English and German. Support will make Sisulizer's features and usage inconsistant.

b) Fuzzy generates imperfect translations by default. This might be acceptable in document localization of not technical documents. But in software localization strings are rather short and 100% accuracy is important if not a must. We learned from our customers that finding language pairs by context is often the only way to go. Finding pairs by value is often unwanted. Finding pairs by fuzzy is even less save. For similar text it might be a good idea to rely more on placeholders like %s directly in the development process instead of relying on fuzzy in the translation process. We know that this is not always possible.

With a and b in our minds and the fact that fuzzy brings a lot of changes to the inner logic of Sisulizer fuzzy matching meaning neverending testing of routines we rely on made fuzzy the most unwanted item on the todo list. I personally think we should bury the idea in favour of more useful stuff.
If fuzzy is really a must (e.g. for long html files) you still can export translations to XLIFF or Excel format and translate in a document localization tool that has advanced and approved fuzzy logic. With these documents the lack of WYSIWYG and context is anyway not a lost.

Markus
